  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

The Peter Pan story is one of my all. time. favorite. TAL stories. Just thinking about it makes me laugh, so thanks!

Claire, this was genius, if only because it made me read that hilarious (albeit hysterical) exchange between you, Natasha, and me three years ago. Can you believe that it was three years ago? A lot can change in three yaers I guess... why, even my grudge against Ira has softened (though not disapated entirely. He is still a sell out. I will always think him a sell out). I might even listen to his show this weekend...*might*. ;)

Seriously, though, thanks for honoring the beloved voice in our ear and in our hearts. Ira is 50. Amazing.

My comment didn't post. :(

Well, I tried, friend...

Oh, Ira. I wish I could listen to your show. I believe in what you do and you tell wonderful stories. But I just can't get over the fact that something about your voice affects me like nails on a chalkboard and drives me to immediately switch off the radio every time I hear it. :(

Bird - your comment made it!

Can you believe that exchange was THREE years ago? That is beyond nutty to me.

Kristen - That makes me sad. I know Elaine and George can't listen for similar reasons. Hope you're well.

Hahahahaha! I love the "proof"! ;)

I have never thought about Ira's voice like that... I'm going to have to listen more closely now...
